Anytime train tickets are fully flexible and convenient, allowing you to travel at a time that suits you best. There are no restrictions on the time of day you can travel using an Anytime ticket and you can travel on peak services. Anytime single and return tickets are ideal if you don’t know the exact time you want to travel, giving you more flexibility. These train tickets are available as a one-way single, return, day single or return option in both standard and first class.

Anytime tickets can show “any permitted” allowing you to travel on any train operator, or they can state a train operator meaning you must travel with a specific operator.

What are Anytime Train Tickets?

Anytime train tickets are fully flexible tickets allowing you to travel at any time of the day. These tickets can be purchased as an Anytime Single, Anytime Return, Anytime Day Single or Anytime Day Return in both standard and first class. Travel any time of the day, even during peak times, with no time restrictions.

How do Anytime Train Tickets work?

Anytime Train Tickets have no time restrictions, so you can travel at any time of day, including peak services.

You can choose between an Anytime Single or an Anytime Return ticket, depending on whether you need a one-way or return journey.

Both Anytime Single and Anytime Return tickets allow you to break your journey meaning you can get off at an intermediate station and continue later the same day.

Anytime Single – You must use this ticket within two days of the date shown on the ticket and until 04:29 the following morning

Anytime Return – You must use this ticket on the date shown on the ticket, or within five days, and return back anytime within one calendar month

Anytime Day Single & Return – You must use this ticket on the date shown on the ticket and up to 04:29 the following day

Anytime train tickets may have operator restrictions, ie. you may have a Hull Trains only ticket unless it states “Any Permitted” which means you can travel with any operator for your chosen route.

The price of an Anytime train ticket varies depending on your journey and route. These tickets are generally more expensive than advance or off peak tickets due to its added flexibility.

How to book an Anytime train ticket

You can book Anytime Single and Return train tickets in advance or on the same day of travel. 

Make a search on the Hull Trains website or app - enter your journey details, dates, passengers and railcards if applicable. Select an Anytime Single or Anytime Return. Choose your outward time, but remember you can travel at any time with this ticket.

An Anytime train ticket means you can travel at any time of the day, on the date shown on your ticket.

What is an Anytime Day Single?

An Anytime Day Single is a single ticket that must be used on the date printed on the ticket and up to 04:29 the following day. Anytime Day Single train tickets are fully flexible and can be used at any time.

How long are Anytime train ticket tickets valid for?

Anytime Day Singles and Returns must be used on the date shown on your ticket, up to 04:29 the following day.
Anytime Singles allow travel within two days of the date shown on the ticket and until 04:29 the following morning.
Anytime Returns allow travel on the date shown on the ticket, or within five days, and return back anytime within one calendar month.

How can I buy an Anytime ticket?

Can I get a discount on an Anytime ticket?

Yes, you can get a discount when you apply a railcard to your booking. Get 1/3 off with a railcard - bring it with you to validate your discount. Railcard information can be found on our Railcards page.

Do children get a discount?

Child fares are discounted by 50% for children aged 5-15. Children under 5 travel free.

Can I break my journey with an Anytime ticket?

You can break your journey with an Anytime Single or Return ticket. You can depart the train at any connecting stop and board a later service to complete your journey. 

Can I use my train ticket on any train?

Anytime Return train tickets and Anytime Single tickets are valid on any train at any time of the day. Check if your ticket states a specific operator for your journey or if it allows any permitted route.

Can I reserve a seat with an Anytime train ticket?

Seat reservations do not automatically come with Anytime train tickets unless you specify at the time of booking. You can request a seat on the service you wish to travel on prior to travel. If you are travelling with Hull Trains, Coach A is our unreserved coach.

What happens if you miss your train?

If you miss your train, your Anytime Train Ticket is still valid. You can board any train during the day so you can travel on the next train for your route. Check if your ticket allows travel on any rail operator or if you must use a single operator for your journey.

Is a day return train ticket valid after midnight?

An Anytime Day Return train ticket is valid on the date shown on your ticket and up to 04:29 the following day.

Are Anytime train tickets refundable?
