Off Peak train tickets offer a more flexible way to travel on the Hull Trains route, avoiding the busier peak times of the day Monday to Thursday (see below for Off Peak train time details).

Peak time restrictions on Fridays have been lifted until further notice, so you can travel all day with an Off Peak train ticket. Off Peak travel is permitted any time on weekends and bank holidays.

Off-Peak Train Times: When Can You Travel?

Off Peak times on Hull Trains are defined by the specific services excluded from Off Peak validity, so you can generally travel throughout the day, but specific services may not be valid with an Off Peak ticket.

Monday-Thursday: Not valid on 05:53/06:15 Hull Trains service from Beverley/Hull, and 16:10 Hull Trains service from London King's Cross
Friday: No restrictions - peak restrictions have been lifted until further notice
Saturdays & Sundays: No restrictions
Bank Holidays: No restrictions

Off Peak Return Conditions & Restrictions

Off Peak Return tickets are for travelling on quieter trains outside of peak travel times via the route specified on the ticket. They can be purchased any time before travel.

The outward portion of an Off Peak Return is valid for travel on the date shown on the ticket only, while the return leg is valid for one calendar month when all travel must be completed in this time.

Valid on trains labelled Off Peak in journey planners, avoiding weekday morning and evening peak times. When searching for an Off Peak Return with Hull Trains, you will be shown valid services only for this ticket type.

An Off Peak Single is suitable if you're making a one-way trip and want flexibility to travel on an eligible Off Peak service. It's valid for travel on the date shown on your ticket, subject to the applicable Off Peak restrictions.

An Off Peak Day Return is suitable if you're travelling out and back on the same day. Both your outward and return journeys must be made on the same day and on eligible Off Peak services.

Off Peak tickets offer flexible travel on eligible services rather than being tied to one specific train like with an Advance ticket. They are available as Singles, Returns and Day Returns, with different validity rules depending on the ticket type. Please enquire if you have an Any Permitted Off Peak ticket and you are unsure, or you can check the National Rail Enquiries website.
 
Hull Trains Only - A Hull Trains Only Off Peak ticket is valid only on Hull Trains services on the route shown on your ticket.

Any Permitted - An Any Permitted Off Peak ticket gives you more flexibility and is valid on other train operators' services on the same permitted route, subject to the ticket's restrictions.

What are off peak train times on Hull Trains?

Peak service restrictions are in place Monday to Thursday: 
• Hull Trains Only Off Peak tickets are not valid on the 05:53/06:15 Hull Trains service from Beverley/Hull  
• Hull Trains Only Off Peak tickets are not valid on the 16:10 Hull Trains services from London King’s Cross
 
There are no restrictions on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays so you can travel any time with an Off Peak train ticket.

What is the difference between Off Peak Single, Day Return and Return?

Hull Trains Only Off Peak tickets are tickets with flexibility where you can travel outside of peak times on Hull Trains services.

Can I amend my Off Peak ticket?

Yes, flexible tickets such as Off Peak tickets can be amended at your point of purchase. If you’ve purchased an Off Peak ticket with Hull Trains, you can change the date or time of travel. Changes can be made fee free before the original travel date/time.

How long is an Off Peak Return valid?

Off Peak Day Returns are valid only for the date specified on the ticket.

Off Peak Returns - the outward journey is valid only on the date specified on ticket, while the return journey can be made up to one calendar month from the outward date, when all travel must be completed in this time. 

Can I use a railcard with an Off Peak ticket?

Yes, you can use your railcard to save money on an Off Peak train ticket. Bring your railcard with you on your journey so your discount can be validated. Find details on railcards here.

Can I get a refund on my Off Peak ticket?

Yes, your ticket is refundable. If you decide not to use your ticket to make all or part of your journey then you can request a refund before 23:59 the day before it becomes valid (an admin fee will apply).

After this time you will only be able to claim a refund if your booked journey was delayed or cancelled. For more information on claiming a refund for tickets purchased from Hull Trains, click here.

Can I use an Off Peak train ticket at 6am?

No, generally you cannot use a Hull Trains Off Peak ticket at 6am on weekdays, as morning peak restrictions usually apply until 09:30. However, Off Peak tickets are valid all day on weekends and bank holidays. Off Peak times differ by train operator and route so please check before you travel.

Can I get an earlier train if it's Off Peak?

Yes, with a Hull Trains Off Peak train ticket, you can board an earlier train provided it also falls within the Off Peak times and adheres to the restrictions of your specific ticket.

Can I upgrade my train ticket from Off Peak to Peak?

Yes, you can upgrade a Hull Trains Off Peak ticket to travel during peak times by paying the fare difference. You can amend your booking for a different time, please note an admin fee may apply for a change.
