Train travel is a little different this year so here’s a few tips to make your journey as smooth as possible if you are travelling over the festive period.
Plan your journey
If you’ve not yet booked your ticket for travel, don’t forget to check our Seat Availability Guide to see which services are busier than others – try to avoid the busiest services as we currently have a reduced capacity across all of our trains to maintain social distancing measures.
We recommend using E-tickets where possible so you can travel contact-free and paperless. You can easily and securely store your e-ticket in the Hull Trains app.

Before you board
Give yourself plenty of time to reach your departure station and to board your service. To help you plan your journey with us, use our Live Trains tool to see how busy each carriage is in real time. Carriages are highlighted green, amber or red in accordance to how busy they are. No need to walk through the train, instead you can go straight to a carriage with more available seats. Feel free to bring along your own food and drink for your journey as we are not offering catering in Standard Class. For passengers travelling in First Class, we have a limited catering offering of snacks and hot and cold drinks, subject to availability.
Our priority is keeping you and our crew safe so you can travel with confidence with safety measures in place on every service. Along with an enhanced cleaning routine, we have clearly marked out which seats are socially distanced with our traffic light system:
• Green tickets = one person per row, sat at a window seat only
• Yellow tickets = for household groups of 2-4
• Red tickets = seats should not be used to maintain social distancing
• Please respect social distancing to help your fellow passengers and our staff
Keep yourself occupied on your journey with our free 4G WiFi. You can also charge your devices with our 3-pin plug and USB sockets at every seat.
