Up to 4 adults and 4 children can travel together for less with a Family & Friends railcard. You can choose from a 1-year railcard for £30 or a 3-year railcard for £70.

To use this railcard, at least one of the adults named on the railcard must travel with one child for the entire journey for the discount to be valid. Any two adults can be named cardholders which will be specified at the time of purchase.

Family & Friends railcards are available to purchase in both physical and digital form. Simply buy your railcard, book your train tickets and apply your railcard to see the automatically discounted fares, and travel with your railcard to validate the discount.

What is a Family & Friends Railcard?

A Family & Friends Railcard is a great way to save money on train travel. Up to 4 adults and 4 children can get discounted travel when travelling together. Adults save 1/3 and children save 60%. 

Two pre-specified adults are named on the railcard and one of these adults can travel with at least one child to get the discount. Don’t forget you must travel with your railcard for the discount to be valid.

How do I use a Family & Friends Railcard?

Up to four adults and four children aged 5-15 travelling together can benefit from this railcard. To validate the discount, at least one of the named adults on the railcard and one child can travel with a Family & Friends railcard. The two adults on the railcard must be named but don’t need to travel together, so when one cardholder isn’t using it, the other can. The second named cardholder doesn’t have to be related to you and can be a friend or childminder making it perfect for days out with friends and kids.

Yes, you can have two nominated adults named on your railcard. The two named adults don’t need to travel together to validate your travel.
You will need a passport style photo (shoulders up) if you are purchasing a digital Family & Friends Railcard online. 
Children must be between the ages of 5 and 15. Adults are classed as 16+.

If a child turns 16 before your 1-year Family & Friends Railcard runs out, they can still travel at the discounted child fare for as long as the card is still valid.

If you’ve got a 3-year Railcard and the child turns 16 before it expires, they can carry on travelling at the discounted child rate until the day before they turn 17.
You can save 1/3 on adult train fares and 60% on child fares with a Family & Friends Railcard.
Yes, if you are one of the named adults on the railcard, you can travel with any other adults (up to 4 including you) and children (up to 4).
Yes, your Family & Friends Railcard is valid for use on all Train Operating Companies in Britain.
Yes, you can travel on any Hull Trains service with this railcard. It may vary by operator and morning peak time restrictions apply Monday to Friday (not including public holidays) for journeys made wholly within the London and South East area.
