Hull Trains, recently named Operator of the Year at the renowned Spotlight Rail Awards, is launching a brand new episode of its successful mental health podcast series ‘Moving Minds’.

Star of the most recent series of the hugely successful TV show The Traitors, Jessie Stride is the guest in the latest episode which is released today. Jessie, who is a hairdresser from Hull, joins the podcast to speak about raising awareness of stammering – a type of speech disorder where the flow of spoken words is altered by repetitions or prolonged sounds.

Episodes of ‘Moving Minds’ are recorded on real train journeys on the East Coast Main Line, with guests joining a Hull Trains service to record their episode. The video podcasts feature personal stories about mental health, as well as the small things guests do to look after their own wellbeing.

The podcast series is hosted by Hull actor Gemma Oaten – well known for her roles on shows including Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Holby City. No stranger to mental health challenges herself, Gemma runs the local eating disorder support service Seed. She’s a passionate advocate for raising awareness of mental health support and the power of a good chat.

Other upcoming episodes feature an illuminating discussion with local actress, TV presenter and voice over Amy Thompson where the pair touch upon the pressure to have children. BBC Morning Live presenter Jack Marriner Brown speaks about how he deals with the demands of live broadcasting and there’s a special Hull KR episode featuring former captain Chris Charles and his son, upcoming talent Jack.

Gemma Oaten, host of ‘Moving Minds’, said she’s passionate about the impact the podcast is having: “I’ve been genuinely blown away by the amazing response we’ve had to the first episodes and being part of a project like this has been a dream come true. As Hull Trains customers will know, I’m a regular on their services and truly believe in the power of a good chat – Moving Minds has given me the unique opportunity to combine those two things and I’m so pleased it’s making a real difference to people.

“The new episodes are going to be big ones. Kicking things off with Jessie is super exciting and I’m sure that listeners will come away with a real admiration for her spirit and hopefully learn something new too. Make sure you listen, watch and share!”

Jessie Stride, the latest ‘Moving Minds’ guest, said: “It was such a joy to be part of the Hull Trains podcast with Gemma. It was a really fun, honest conversation. We had a good yap, put the world to rights, and shared plenty of laughs along the way.”

Nathan Rayne, Interim Service Delivery Director at Hull Trains, added: “The response to the first episodes of ‘Moving Minds’ has been brilliant, so we thought it made sense to invite even more interesting people onboard to share their stories with Gemma.

“There’s something very special about the opportunity a picturesque Hull Trains journey provides to have a proper conversation about how you’re feeling and I think the podcast really taps into this. As a company, supporting the mental health of both our customers and colleagues is very important to us and I look forward to seeing our podcast continue to contribute towards this.”

It’s easy to catch up with previous episodes of ‘Moving Minds’ on the Hull Trains YouTube channel and on all major podcast platforms.

The company’s colleague chosen charity partner, P.A.U.L For Brain Recovery supports brain recovery and mental health, helping the operator to contribute to life changing work in the local area.
