The UK’s favourite rail operator, Hull Trains, has partnered with Hull Maritime Museum to create a special video providing customers and visitors with an exclusive ‘first-look’ inside the city’s cultural attraction, ahead of its much-anticipated official re-opening later this month.
This exclusive content is part of an ongoing partnership between the museum and the rail operator, which is a proud supporter of East Yorkshire and the communities along its popular East Coast Main Line route. The intention is to drive visitors into the city via train to come and see the attraction.
The fascinating walk-around video showcases the extensive restoration of the iconic museum and highlights Hull’s rich maritime heritage, while encouraging people from across the network to discover one of the UK’s most important maritime collections.
Filmed on location at the museum ahead of its public reopening, the content is fronted by experienced journalist and broadcaster Chris Jackson.
Chris takes viewers on an exclusive behind the scenes tour, providing a ‘sneak peek’ of the transformed attraction, offering a glimpse of the exhibits, galleries and the untold stories that celebrate Hull’s longstanding relationship with the sea.
The museum temporarily closed its doors to the public in January 2020 as part of a major £20.4 million transformation and refurbishment project. The challenges of COVID and a difficult economic climate have meant the project has had an extended timeline, but there is great anticipation in the city and beyond ahead of the re-opening.
Later this month visitors will be able to go back inside the building and for the first time into the iconic dome, as well as viewing artifacts and displays that haven’t been previously on display.
Travelling with Hull Trains provides the perfect way to visit the city and explore the wider maritime history, this includes the museum and the wider dock area which has all been upgraded in recent years.
The Open Access operator has again recently been recognised as the industry's top-performing train operator for customer satisfaction, achieving an exceptional 94% score in the Rail Customer Experience Survey (RCXS) for October 2025 to March 2026.
Councillor Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council said: "In Hull we are incredibly proud of our maritime heritage and of the renovated maritime museum. The museum allows us to tell Hull's history in a fitting manner. We would like to thank Hull Trains for putting together their film, which will help promote both the museum and the city of Hull as destinations for people from across the country to visit. We look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide and hope many will get here by train too."
Richard Salkeld, Director of Communications and Partnerships at Hull Trains, added: "Hull Maritime Museum is one of the city's most iconic buildings, and its transformation is nothing short of outstanding. It's a venue that will inspire local people, attract visitors from across the country and provide another compelling reason to discover everything Hull has to offer and we’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors to the city onboard our services.”
