Hull City take on Middlesborough in the Championship Play Off Final tomorrow (23 May), with Hull Trains operating a non-stop southbound and northbound service.
The operator, which picked up ‘Operator of the Year’ at the recent Spotlight Rail Awards, is a proud partner of Hull City. Services are now fully sold out on Saturday 23 May, with customers being advised to travel on Friday 22 May or Sunday 24 May to avoid the busiest journeys.
Hull Trains is an open access rail operator and has been able to offer the direct services for football fans by working with its sister operator Lumo, which usually connects Glasgow, Edinburgh, the North East of England and London King’s Cross.
As well as supporting Hull City fans, Hull Trains is also helping Hull KR fans on the 30 May when they compete in the Challenge Cup Final, with non-stop southbound and northbound services on the day of the match. The operator is recommending that customers travel on the 29 May and return on the 31 May if they can, to avoid the busiest services.
The announcement comes just weeks after Hull Trains released a special episode of its ‘Moving Minds’ podcast in partnership with Hull KR, focused on men’s mental health. Legendary former captain Chris Charles and his son Jack, a promising young halfback, joined host Gemma Oaten discussed how they cope with the challenges of the sport and the changing attitudes towards men’s mental health over the years.
Nathan Rayne, Interim Service Delivery Director at Hull Trains, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our local teams and the success of both Hull KR and Hull City is a real asset to our home city. We’re a long-term partner of both the clubs, as well as the brilliant Hull FC, so supporting fans as they travel to both finals was something we were determined to do.
“Our direct northbound and southbound services for both Hull City and Hull KR fans will be incredibly popular, so I’d urge fans to check the latest information on the Hull Trains website before they travel. I’d also like to wish both clubs good luck on behalf of our team!”
Joe Clutterbrook, Chief Operating Officer at Hull City, said: “We are proud of our connection to local business and Hull Trains are a pillar of that community. In fact, our players travelled down to London King’s Cross with their friendly team earlier this week.
“The direct services Hull Trains have organised are massively appreciated by our loyal fans as they travel to support us. Thank you once again on behalf of the club.”
Hull KR Chief Executive Paul Lakin, added: “Our ongoing partnership with Hull Trains is one we’re incredibly proud of. The direct services to London which they have offered our fans over the past few years have been a huge help in transporting as many of our loyal supporters to Wembley as possible.”
Hull Trains offers affordable travel to destinations including Beverley, Hull, Doncaster, Grantham, Selby and London King’s Cross on eight direct weekday train services. The operator’s combination of sustainability with affordable fares, excellent service and support for local communities has proved to be a winning formula.
