Louise Cheeseman, managing director for Hull Trains said: “Following the recent announcement which outlined measures for the gradual lifting of restrictions, we continue to carefully consider when we plan to resume services.

“As England cautiously moves out of lockdown in the coming months, we shall continue to monitor demand from passengers. I am confident that we can safely resume once more people begin to travel again and it’s financially viable for us to roll out our resumption plan.

“Thank you to all our customers for ongoing support and we shall share any news on return dates as soon as we are able.”

Media Update FAQs

Hull Trains is currently in a consultation period with members of the onboard experience, customer services and technical services team. These roles are being reviewed in light of the current circumstances resulting from the pandemic.
When the coronavirus pandemic hit, all franchised rail operators received Emergency Measures Agreements outlined by the Department of Transport.

Hull Trains is an open access operator. This means we rely on revenue from ticket sales to operate our services and we did not receive any emergency measures support.

We hibernated the business in March 2020 to protect the long-term future of the business and we took advantage of the furlough scheme.
We resumed services in August 2020 after a period of hibernation and we are currently running a reduced timetable

Passengers can still travel with us and we have introduced several safety measures so people can travel with confidence.

We are not currently offering catering onboard, as part of our health and safety measures, and the proposed changes will mean that our onboard trolley service will not be reinstated.
Hull Trains is currently in a period of consultation which is expected to last until 13 November 2020.
These are reluctant measures we are taking to protect the medium to long-term future of the business in these challenging times.

Hull Trains plays a vital role in the local economy and we are working closely with FirstGroup to cautiously roll out a sustainable business plan.
