The 12:33 Hull Trains service from Hull on the 26th September may have been just another journey for some, but for Mags Newton and the Hull Trains team it had a great significance.
Starting as an on-board host for the train operating company in January 2011, Mags has been an integral part of the on-board team for Hull Trains for the last eight years. The 12:33 service was set to be her last trip before retiring.
Despite celebrating its 18th birthday just the day before, Mags retirement marks a first for the company. She was greeted by fellow team members on Platform 2 just before the service was to depart, along with her husband, Keith, to surprise her with first class service and a bottle of fizz for her final journey as a Hull Trains team member.
Debbie Birch, Head of HR, said: “Mags has been a fantastic team member for the last seven years and everyone would like to thank her for the great service she has given to our customers in her time here.
“Surprising her on the platform on her last shift was a memorable occasion for us all - it was a great opportunity to demonstrate how valued Mags is.
“We’d like to wish Mags all the best in her retirement and we look forward to seeing her on board again as a customer!”
Prior to working for Hull Trains, Mags was a manager at Cooplands for around 15 years. Beforehand, Mags and Keith ran their own bakery in West Hull, as well as a newsagents off Anlaby Road.
Have a fantastic retirement Mags - from everyone at Hull Trains!
