Hull Trains has held its first ever Employee Excellence awards at The Deep, hosted by former Home Secretary and MP Alan Johnson.

The ceremony was attended by the companies’ colleagues and their partners in a celebration of the firms’ values and behaviours that have led to its many successes. In addition, colleagues were recognised for going above and beyond what is expected in their day to day role to deliver an exceptional service for customers.

Several colleagues were recognised for areas such as safety, community engagement, supporting each other and customer service. In a surprise twist, all colleagues won the award for ‘committed to customers’ and were given a £50 voucher from the Managing Director.

The special award for outstanding individual went to on-board host Annette Brown. Annette regularly receives praise from customers and colleagues and was recently selected for recognition from 125,000 employees across the world at FirstGroup’s excellence awards.

The awards ceremony also recognised the contribution of those colleagues with over ten years service with Hull Trains – totalling more than a third of the company.

Will Dunnett, Managing Director of Hull Trains says: “Our colleagues have delivered an amazing journey over the last 17 years and this evening was our way of recognising that. Our business is in a very strong and exciting place. With the support of a sustainable long-term business plan and an eye on the introduction of new, bi-mode high-tech trains, there has never been a more appropriate time to recognise the efforts of our colleagues and their achievements."

Alan Johnson commented: “I was delighted to host this recognition event for Hull Trains; a company which I believe, plays a major role in representing our city to the rest of the UK. It is a firm that is built on genuine values and a true commitment to providing the best possible service to customers. The evening displayed those values in action and the support and camaraderie that colleagues have for each other.”

In the past year, Hull Trains has won a string of awards including the prestigious Rail Operator of the Year 2016/17; Transport of the North’s award for Customer Service; various safety awards and also the Mail Business Award for Customer Service Team of the Year.
