Brick Lane is full of wonderful and diverse eateries, shops and bars. Dark Sugars is a delicious part of that story.

Those that battle a sweet tooth on a daily basis will adore Dark Sugars Chocolates. As you walk down the famous street, you will smell the rich aroma of this cocoa heaven before you even spot it.

Stepping into Dark Sugars, you can feast your eyes on hundreds of perfectly crafted chocolate truffles that fill beautiful wooden tables and shelves. Meanwhile, the sheer scent of the roasted cocoa beans will have you craving something sweet.

Luckily, founder Nyanga has a lot on offer, including signature hot beverages, delicious cocktails, chocolate pearls, crunchy nutty bites and even fruit slices covered in vegan chocolate.

It all started in Spitalfields Market, where she met a man who shared her intense passion for cocoa. The pair began selling truffles in the iconic foodie haven, Borough Market. After much success, Nyanga decided to travel the world to discover and research new flavours. She spent three years at her family's farm in West Africa, as well as flying to South America to study the cocoa bean in more depth.

In 2013, Dark Sugars was born, selling distinctive treats made from Ghanaian cocoa beans. The atmosphere in the shop and adjacent Cocoa House is electric, with West African music blaring from speakers as staff and customers sway their hips to the uplifting beat. Nyanga is clearly keen to show off her family's vibrant culture, with much of the artwork lining the walls reflecting the people and customs of West Africa.

Highlights include Pitch Black Hot Chocolate, which is possibly the thickest, most indulgent and naughtiest drink you will ever pass your lips. You can also choose a comparatively lighter option, with their hazelnut and milk chocolate flavours. The chilli topped drink is particularly lovely on a cold evening. Hot beverages range from around £4 to £6.

Meanwhile, you can take a sample of Dark Sugars home with you, or share the luscious flavours with a loved one by purchasing a Signature Box of assorted delights. The Overdose Truffle is a popular choice, whilst unique flavours such as Apricot Brandy, Cardamom and Orange, and Poire and Raspberry jump off the menu. Seven truffles will set you back around £8, but we promise you they'll be worth it.

The nearest Tube station to Dark Sugars is Aldergate East, but you can also get to it by walking from Shoreditch High Street. If you're coming from King's Cross, we recommend heading to Aldergate East.

Dark Sugars Chocolates and the neighbouring Cocoa House are located at 141 Brick Lane and 124-126 Brick Lane. Both are open daily from 10am until 10pm.
