Welcome to Hull

There are two large shopping centres in Hull, a University, and one of the UK's oldest youth orchestras, the Hull Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. There is an extensive museum and visitor quarter which includes 'The Deep' (Maritime Museum) and Hull Ice Arena.

Hull is the only UK city with its own independent telephone network company, Kingston Communications, one of the first in Europe to offer ADSL.

Hull Port provides daily overnight ferry services to Zeebrugge and Rotterdam, and is also on the European E20 route from Shannon in Ireland to St Petersburg in Russia.

The Humber Bridge, the fourth-longest single-span suspension bridge in the world is nearby. Unusually for an ancient city, Hull has no cathedral.

Notable Hull residents have included Ian Carmichael, Sir Tom Courtenay, Francis Durbridge, Amy Johnson, William Wilberforce, Maureen Lipman, and The Rt Hon John Prescott MP.
