Independent shops are great for finding those unusual and unexpected Christmas gifts. Luckily, Hull has a vast array of charming and unique stores and boutiques, whether you're looking for something artsy, tasty or nerdy. We've rounded up some of the top spots to shop independent in the city this festive season.

Judy's Attic

Nestled down an alleyway at 78 Newland Avenue, Judy's Attic stocks a plethora of handcrafted gifts and artwork. The shop itself is actually run and managed by a collective, with over 40 makers contributing and selling their homemade crafts. The attic also acts as a base for several workshops, perfect if you fancy making something of your own to give to a loved one this Christmas.

Cocoa Chocolatier and Bakery

The beloved chocolatier and patisserie has branched out from its stall (which is still running in Trinity Indoor Market) and set up shop on the newly regenerated Humber Street. Offering a vast array of sweet treats, from indulgent chocolates to fresh pastries, the small mustard-fronted shop is a must-visit for the whole family this Christmas. Gift boxes start from just £6 and customers can choose from a tasty selection of flavours, such as espresso and amaretto, cocoa and vanilla, and strawberry and black pepper. For the kids, why not pick up one of their make-your-own kits?

Roisin Dubh

Situated in the beautifully ornate Hepworth Arcade, Roisin Dubh is ideal for those who love unique homeware and trinkets. The small shop is filled to the brim with vintage and retro treasures, including tea party accessories and charming kitchenalia. They also offer a free gift wrap service for purchases over £6 “ that's one less thing to think about on Christmas eve! "

Tessies

For the fabulous fashionista in your life, head to Tessies, where you will find a whole range of pretty accessories, stunning clothes and on-trend bags. The small boutique on Newland Avenue sells quirky style in an array of regular and plus sizes, ideal for the on fleek lady or young trendsetter.

Kapow

Whether they're into Marvel or DC, or just can't let go of childhood favourites like Scooby-Doo and Wacky Races, Kapow is a one-stop-shop for all your retro geeky needs. Stocking a vast assortment of official gifts, mugs, bags, T-shirts, posters and prints, the Whitefriargate-based store is the place to grab a gift for that nerdy relative or co-worker.

Leonard Silver

Justifiably self-dubbed the complete manshop , Leonard Silver is the ultimate solution when hunting for a gift fit for a gentlemen. The bespoke men's tailors stocks high-end fashion from labels such as Armani, Florentino and Morelli. You can also get made-to-measure wears, plus gift vouchers for those that are a little hard to buy for. Leonard Silver is situated on Saville Street in Hull and in Saturday Market in Beverley.
