Grantham

Grantham is a small Lincolnshire market town situated on the River Witham. Two world-famous people associated with the town are Sir Isaac Newton, whose birthplace was nearby Woolsthorpe Manor, a National Trust property open to the public, and former Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher, born in Grantham. The town's museum houses special collections on both personalities.

The main local landmark is the imposing parish church of St Wulfram's (links open in a new browser window), which has the sixth highest spire (282 ft) among English churches. Nearby places of interest include Belton House, a restoration country house with stunning interiors, and fine silver and furniture collections. There are also formal gardens, a landscaped park and a large adventure playground. The impressive Belvoir Castle and gardens, located just off the A1, runs an active diary of special events and festivals throughout the year.

Further afield are Easton Walled Gardens, 12 acres of gardens undergoing a major revival. Continuously gardened for over 400 years until they were abandoned in the 1950s, they are now attracting serious national interest. Visitors to the gardens in spring can see spectacular drifts of snowdrops and a large display of bulbs.
